Dear CBC Family,

All of you who would normally have gathered together this morning for worship were sorely missed. Canceling our Sunday activities for any reason is something the elders of CBC take very seriously and we want to follow up with our plan for moving forward in our response to COVID-19.

We all need to know that while you can cancel a church meeting, you can’t cancel the church. Regardless of whether we have the opportunity to meet together on a given Sunday, we are still members together of this flock called Calvary Bible Church. As elders, or shepherds of this flock, we want to walk alongside each of you through the challenging times that are before us. I say this humbly because none of us church leaders feel fully qualified for this task. But by God’s grace as we follow the Chief Shepherd, He will give us everything necessary for what we have been called to.

This morning at 10AM the elders met to discuss plans regarding church activities and how we can best shepherd the flock at this time. As far as activities go, all have been canceled for the next two weeks. This includes all the mid-week Bible Studies, AWANA, and BSF, as well as next Sunday’s Sunday School classes and Worship Service. During this time of absence from our regular gatherings, we strongly encourage regular times of family worship. If you are single make every effort to stay engaged with other members of your church family. Next Sunday, the sermon will be available on the CBC website by 10am so you can go to church while staying at home. The elders will meet again next Sunday and reassess the situation at that time.

While some will think that canceling our church activities for the next two weeks is an over-reaction, the elders of CBC feel very strongly that these are prudent steps to take in light of the threat that COVID-19 poses here in our valley and across the country. This morning’s elders’ meeting included an in-depth discussion about COVID-19 led by Dr. David Verst. We have asked David to prepare a message on this subject for our church family. We hope to post his message on the website within the next 24 hours. We strongly recommend that you take time to listen and take all the necessary precautions available to you. The sermon I had prepared to give at this morning’s worship service on a godly response to this crisis will also be posted soon.

Finally, while all of this should be taken very seriously, we need not fear. We are assured that as believers we are in the loving hands of our heavenly Father. As Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

He Will Hold You Fast!
